First Full Day at Chubu...

Today started out with a placement test that was designed to make us fail. To say the least, it was hard. After that we had lunch, which for me was a microwave cup of noodles; cheap and relatively tasty. Then it was off on a campus tour which was about an hour and a half. Somehow McDonalds secured a location on campus. I could not believe it. Fortunately, there are three other cafeterias (that I am aware of) and they all seem like the will be pretty good. I guess I will find out over the coming days and weeks. After the tour we walked down to a shopping plaza in the city. It took about 15 minutes to get there. There are quite a few shops down there; 100yen shop, grocery store, shoe store, CVS type place, computer/CD/video game shop, clothes, etc...It will be a good place to go to get just about everything I'll need to survive. Then we had to register our fingerprints to use to get into the dorm after 9PM. That was really easy to do and took about 10 minutes for the entire process. From there we went and had some dinner. It was a little bit spicy, but not too bad. Everything was really good. It was all better than standard American dorm/cafeteria food.

Check out a few pictures of my dorm(for two people):

Morgan-
Hooray - finally there!
The dorm looks very nice but tiny - do you share that small space with anther student?
Its good to be close to town so you can easily get away from campus? McDs on campus seems worse than US schools - must mean that in Japan businesses are even in more control than here.
Keep exploring and sending pix and words!

Hey Morgan!! That dinner looks really delicious! Was it at a cafeteria? What are the names of the other eating places? Are they regular commercial restaurants, or more like an internal college cafeteria? Do you have a roommate? Are the other foreign students from countries other than the US? When do you start classes? We can hardly wait to learn everything about your new life! Love, Mom
